The Jacques A. Clermont Memorial Foundation (JACMF) is a nonprofit founded in 1997.
The Foundation partners with families in Jacmel, Haiti, to provide financial support for children and youth to pursue an education through schooling and vocational training. Our support aims to increase educational opportunities and address challenges faced by families to help break the cycle of poverty and support Haitian youth in becoming contributing members of Haitian society.
Our History
The Jacques A. Clermont Memorial, Inc. (JACMF) is a non-profit organization established in the memory of Dr. Jacques A. Clermont, whose life ended tragically in a car accident in 1995. Due to the political instability in Haiti in the late 1960s, Dr. Jacques Clermont and his wife, Renee, settled in the United States where he continued to pursue his medical career at Harlem Hospital, Columbia University. Dr. Clermont and his wife remained active in helping their fellow Haitians by providing free education and medical care to those in the diaspora, raising funds for initiatives in Haiti, and sending supplies and medicine back to Haiti.
After his sudden death, Dr. Clermont’s family founded the JACMF and opened a residential center in his hometown of Jacmel, Haiti. For 17 years, the center provided a nurturing home for impoverished young boys and supported their education and access to healthcare. In 2020, the Foundation moved away from a residential home model in favor of family unification and addressing the causes that lead to separation of children from their parents.
